Home Mobile & Factory Built Unitized Substations
Unitized or “Skid-Mounted” substations are a great way to reduce complexity, project schedule, and total installed cost when installing a new substation or replacing an old one. Skid-mounted substations are smaller in footprint than traditional substations and highly customizable. Typical applications range up to 69 kV and 15 MVA. Larger voltages and MVA ratings are often accommodated based on overall system characteristics.
Skid-mounted substations save on price, time, and footprint. Elgin builds ours in a controlled factory environment at a competitive labor rate, minimizing on-site labor and weather-related issues. Elgin’s skid-mounted substations can be mounted on a concrete pad, concrete piers, helical anchors, or set straight on the ground. Any civil foundational work on-site, which is typically less for a skid-mounted substation than a traditional substation, is performed concurrently while skid assembly and electrical installation are taking place in Elgin’s factory. The all-in-one design minimizes field installation. Further, oil containment can be made integral to the skid. Finally, Elgin’s skid-mounted substations will arrive on-site with relay and control wiring pre-cut, wired, installed, and everything tested, ensuring your new substation is ready for service.
